Activated Metal Treatment System (AMTS)
For about 50 years, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were commonly used in industrial materials including, caulking, cutting oils, inks, paints and as dielectric fluids in electrical equipment such as transformers and capacitors. Concerns over health effects led to a North American ban of manufacturing PCBs in 1977. By the mid-1980s, an initiative was started to clean up contaminated areas and to phase out PCB-containing equipment and products that were still in use.

PCBs pose a very real human health threat through numerous exposure pathways. The remediation of these contaminants is essential to promote public health and environmental quality.  The main form of remediation for PCB’s and PCB contaminated materials is through disposal at a hazardous waste landfill.   The problem is landfilling is that it’s merely a containment mechanism that does not eliminate the possibility of environmental contamination and does not end the liability to the waste producer.
  • ACTIVATED METAL TREATMENT SYSTEM (AMTS) technology was developed and patented by NASA and Scientific Specialists, Inc. (SSI).
